Spinal Decompression is the standard of care for non-surgical treatment of sciatica, disc bulges and degenerative disc disease.
What is Spinal Decompression?
Spinal Decompression uses new advanced technology in the form of intermittent traction applied to a specific spinal region. The goal, through using a gentle pulling and releasing motion, is to create a small vacuum that pulls a disc bulge back into place, therefore relieving it's irritation to the nerve root. Through this process the pressure on the nerve causing it to be "pinched" is relieved.
How Effective is Spinal Decompression?
Recent research studies have shown spinal decompression to be 86% effective for qualifying patients. Some of our patients notice pain relief within a couple of sessions. Others may begin to see improvement within the first couple of weeks. Of course, it can depend on the severity of the injury and how long the problem has been there.
Does Spinal Decompression Hurt?
The process is generally very comfortable and it is not uncommon for us to check on our patients while they are on decompression and find them snoring away. There may be a little mild discomfort upon standing following the first couple of sessions. This is similar to how you might feel some discomfort upon standing after sleeping in bed all night. This rarely occurs and when it does it's generally only following the first couple of treatments. Many of our patients choose to bring an IPod with them to enjoy some relaxing music while on decompression.
