Rang of Motion
We use a state of the art computerized digital range of motion system called the Q-ROM. Using dual digital inclinometry the Q-ROM documents range of motion, one of the indicators of musculo-skeletal injury. As treatment progresses we continue to check the range of motion and compare it against previous measurements. This gives us a good baseline to document the patients progress through a treatment plan. We like to use the Q-ROM for documenting injuries from car accidents, traumas and work related injuries.
WHY IS RANGE OF MOTION SO IMPORTANT?
Documenting range of motion is extremely important because it is a truly objective way to document improvement. When a joint is subluxated or injured, it will either become fixated (stuck) or hypermobile (usually because of tearing to the ligaments). When we measure the joints range of motion it helps to let the doctor know how injured a joint complex is.
The two most reliable indicators of joint injury are range of motion and activites of daily living. Range of motion, along with all of the other tests and diagnostic proceedures we perform, will help the doctors to determine how much injury there has been. Activities of daily living are the things that you could normally do in your every day life that you are no longer able to perform due to an injury. The Q-ROM helps us determine the range of motion and we use various questionaires to help us evaluate your activities of daily living.
